Pasadena police release this photograph of a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault investigation. [Pasadena Police Dept.]Police arrested a suspect they believe brandished a gun and attempted to sexually assault a worker at a local health spa just hours after detectives released the suspect’s photo to the media and to employees of the police department.
The suspect was spotted at 12:30 p.m. Thursday by officers driving in the area of Walnut Street and Hill Avenue in Pasadena. The officers tried to make contact with the suspect but he fled.
Following a short foot pursuit, the suspect was arrested, police said.
Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department’s Special Victim’s Unit interviewed the man following his arrest and obtained a confession, police said.
Detectives also located the weapon they believed was used during the assault. Upon inspection, the weapon was identified as a BB gun and not a real firearm.
The suspect was identified as 45-year-old Victor Hugo Vega, a Pasadena transient.
According to police, on September 4, Vega reportedly entered a local health spa in the 2000 block of East Colorado Blvd. and requested a massage from an employee.
Just prior to receiving his massage, Vega allegedly brandished a firearm at the female employee.
During the lengthy assault, Vega attempted to sexually assault the employee. He eventually fled the location on a bicycle, authorities said in a statement.
Police said the criminal case will be presented to the Los Angeles County’s District Attorney’s Office within the next several days.
