THOMASTON, GA — A rural Georgia high school was on lockdown for about two hours Tuesday after a student mistook a handheld massager for a gun, according to police.

Emergency personnel received a 911 call from a parent shortly before noon that their child, a student at Upson-Lee High School in Thomaston, saw another student with a handgun in the boys bathroom, Upson County Sheriff Dan Kilgore said in a Facebook post.

"Through investigation it was found that a male student had a hand held massager that resembled a handgun," Kilgore said. "The student in possession of the massager admitted that he possessed it in the restroom and pointed it at another student. There was no active shooter and all students are safe."

The school district was placed on full lockdown while police investigated.
