HACC has expanded it facilities for its massage therapy program.

The college’s newly renovated space at its Harrisburg Campus will allow the program to grow from 18 to 30 students. The space will be used for instruction and as part of the program’s student studio. The new space will be used beginning Monday.

The expansion is a 1,500 square-foot massage studio and classroom space. It includes equipment used in the industry, such as electric massage tables, stools and supplies.

Students are required to complete a minimum of 50 supervised massages in the studio in addition to assigned classroom hours.

The Massage Therapy Program was founded 15 years ago. More than 400 students have graduated from the program since 2007.

“Massage therapists are recognized as high-priority occupations in Pennsylvania, and HACC’s Massage Therapy Program is one of the only accredited programs in our region,” HACC president, John “Ski” Sygielski, said in a news release. “We are proud to continue offering exceptional training to help meet the demand for these skilled workers.”

The Massage Therapy Program at HACC is recognized by the American Massage Therapy Association and Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last month.

The studio is located at One HACC Drive, Hall Technology Building, Room 203 in Harrisburg.

HACC, previously known as Harrisburg Area Community College, is located about 10 minutes from downtown Harrisburg.
