Whether you’re a high-performance athlete or just want to live healthier, a new Stoney Creek gym promises to provide the right fitness solution in a vibrant and upbeat setting.
Open since July 4 at 360 Lewis Rd., Unit 204, TeamYou HQ features a wide array of modern equipment and amenities like an exclusive physiotherapy room, change rooms with lockers and showers, key fob entry, free massage chairs, shake bar, and supplements. The gym also offers personal training for healthy living individuals, performance athletes and competitive bodybuilders.
The 5,000-square-foot facility is a significant expansion from the gym’s former Ancaster location.
Founded by Vaughn Vanderham, 28, and Tyler Okowinsky, 37, TeamYou HQ owners have a combined 33 years of fitness industry experience.
Okowinsky is the sports technician. He’s also a professional bodybuilder recognized by the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness.
“We service everyone from athletes to injury therapy, and lifestyle clients,” he said. “We are a facility that caters to everyone and anyone. We’re not a bodybuilding gym; we’re not sport-specific, but we do offer that. Here, it’s about, ‘How can we help you?’”
Vanderham is the healthy living trainer. He specializes in helping clients lose weight, improve muscle tone, gain strength and boost their energy levels.
“We’ve got the premium equipment,” Vanderham noted. “We are offering free one-week passes right now for anyone who wants to come and try out the gym. It comes with a free personal training session.”
Equipment amenities include a lateral machine raise, hip thrust machine, inverted leg press, belt squat machines, boxing bags, bulletproof steel dumbbells, a variety of cardio machines and more.
In addition to the free one-week trial passes, memberships are now available in multiple formats.
Clients can choose a one-year commitment, a monthly membership with no commitment, day passes, or limited memberships of six entries per month. Membership will be capped at 200.
“A lot of people may feel skittish in going to a private facility,” said Okowinsky. “But we’re not a big commercial chain.”
TeamYou HQ offers one-on-one training and group training for a maximum of five people. The gym is currently in the process of hiring additional personal trainers, as well as a physiotherapist.
Looking ahead, Vanderham, who moonlights as a DJ, plans to host special themed evenings, where participants can move to the beat of house, rock or rap music as they work out.
“We usually have house music blaring in here for everyone,” he noted.
It’s all aimed toward making the gym as welcoming as possible.
“As soon as you walk through the door you get positive vibes,” Okowinsky added. “That’s the way it should be.”
TeamYou HQ is staffed on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Key fob entry is also available to members daily from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. The gym, located in a plaza next to Top Shot Golf, also offers an abundance of free parking.
